Lifeguard Certification

The Stayton Family Memorial Pool offers Lifeguard certification for those interested in becoming a Lifeguard. Our certification is through the American Red Cross. In order to be certified as a lifeguard, you must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course and attend all scheduled classes

Junior Lifeguard Certification

    

If you do not meet the age requirement for the Lifeguard certification, the Stayton Family Memorial Pool also offers a Junior Lifeguard certification for ages 11 to 14 years old.  

     

Certification class will be June 19th - 21st continuing June 25th - 27th 8:00 am - 2:00 pm (half hour for lunch).   Students must attend all days unless per-approved by instructor.

 

Things to bring:  Swimsuit, 2 towels, sack lunch and snack and bottle for water

Prerequisites:

   

Before entering the Junior Lifeguarding course, participants must:

  

~Demonstrate the following skills:

   

     Swim the front crawl for 25 meters continuously while breathing to the front or side.
     Swim the breaststroke for 25 meters continuously while using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.

   

~Complete the Water Competency Sequence

  

    1. Step into the water from the side and totally submerge.
    2. Maintain position for one minute by treading water or floating (or a combination of the two).
    3. Rotate one full turn and orient to the exit.
    4. Level off and swim on the front or back 25 yards.
    5. Exit without using a ladder or steps.
